Employment Interview Tips
A strong CV will improve your chances of securing that all important interview, but this is only the first step on the road to that perfect job.
So how do you ensure that you are one step ahead of the competition?
Employment Interview Tips - The Day of the Interview
| 1. | Don't turn up to the interview empty handed |
Always take a few copies of your CV to the employment interview. You may find that an interviewer is pulled in at the last minute and doesn't have a copy of your CV. Extra brownie points can be earned by offering them a copy. As well as taking extra CVs, a Brag file can also be taken with you, if appropriate. A Brag file is a folder that contains examples of your achievements. This can include written statements from previous employers.
| 2. | Dress Appropriately for the Interview |
Dressing appropriately may sound obvious, but you will be surprised at some of the things people wear when attending an interview. Unless told to the contrary, always wear a suit with smart shoes.
| 3. | Arrive on Time for the Interview |
Always arrive on time, or even better, a few minutes early. NEVER arrive late to an interview, as you don't want their first impression of you to be the wrong one. Of all the interview tips that we can offer, this is one of the most important.
| 4. | Pay Attention to Detail |
Some interviewers will ask you to fill out an application form. Spend time over this and fill it out completely.
| 5. | Appear Confident to the Interviewer |
Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake and a smile. Look them in the eye, so as not to appear nervous, but be careful not to stare at them. |
